If anyone has used this free image processing software and also others, I'm curious to know how it compares, especially in terms of performance but any other feedback is appreciated. Is there something lacking in this program that makes paying for something else worth the expense? I guess as a beginner I will start with this free program but I am wondering what I might be sacrificing to save $$. Thanks for any advice!

Hello, A&D, thanks for responding. Oh yes, now I recall hearing what you are saying, I was thinking that I'd probably try to use GIMP since it's free and I already have some experience with it for normal photo editing. But I will check out PixInsight, I see they have a free version, too. Thanks!
Deep Sky Stacker is good for stacking images, but is not meant to be used to actually process the image. People who use DSS usually stack their files and process it in either Photoshop or PixInsight.
